Episode 304 - God Never Meant for You to Do Life Alone

Community, Connection and the Life Jesus Came to Give

28 April 2026

Hebrews 11:1 tells us plainly: "do not forsake the gathering together of the brethren."

But for many of us, this feels easier said than done — especially when we're introverted, hurt by church, or just not sure where we fit.

What if finding your tribe wasn't something you had to force? What if it was something you could actually ask God to do with you? Here are three practical steps to building the kind of Kingdom community that will change your life — and your faith.

Part 1 | Ask God Before You Look

The first and most important step in finding your tribe isn't signing up for every church event on the calendar. It's a prayer. A simple, expectant, trusting prayer.

I remember asking God something so direct it almost felt too simple: Lord, will You show me who my friends are? Who are the people You've placed in my life for this season — the mentors, the peers, the mentees, the ones I'll laugh with and cry with?

And He answered. Not always in the way I expected, but He answered. Because God knows exactly who He wants you connected to. He is not passive about your relationships. He is actively working to place the right people around you — you just need to invite Him into the search.

So before you sign up for anything, before you put yourself out there in any direction — go to God first. Tell Him what you're longing for. Ask Him to show you who's already nearby. Let Him be the architect of your connections. This is how you stop striving and start trusting — even when it comes to finding your people.

Part 2 | Show Up and Step Out

Once you've prayed, you've got to move. Faith without action is still just wishful thinking, and community doesn't come to you — you have to put yourself somewhere it can find you.

This doesn't mean being someone you're not. If you're an introvert, you're still an introvert. But being an introvert doesn't mean being invisible. It means you get to practise the brave version of yourself — the one who says hello first, who stays five extra minutes after the service ends, who sends the text instead of waiting to be texted.

Go to church. Volunteer. Attend the event you always talk yourself out of. And when you're there, don't just look for what you can get — ask God how you can give. "Lord, how can I love on these people? How can I encourage them? What do You see in them that I can speak out?"

Showing up changes things. It changes you. And it creates the space for God to move in ways that He simply cannot when you're staying home and hoping community will somehow appear.

Part 3 | Champion the People Around You

The deepest kind of community isn't built by gathering in the same room — it's built by genuinely seeing each other. And seeing each other starts with asking God to show you what He sees.

I love doing this in worship especially. When everyone's hands are raised and we're all just loving on God together, I'll ask Him: "Lord, what does this look like to You? What are You seeing right now?" And then He'll draw my attention to someone — a quiet faithful person, someone who hugs people at the door and changes their whole day, someone whose gift nobody has named out loud yet.

When God shows you something beautiful in a person, tell them. Walk up and say it. Be the person who calls out the gold that others are carrying but haven't been shown. That kind of encouragement is deeply Kingdom — it reminds people that God sees them, that He's paying attention, that they matter.

This is how community transforms from a group of people in a room into a family. Not by showing up perfectly, but by showing up intentionally — and then letting God use you to champion the very people He's placed beside you.

Say “Yes” to God’s Invitation

You were not designed to do this faith walk alone. God has people for you — people who will raise you to new levels and who you will raise in return.

Start with a prayer. Show up somewhere. Speak out the gold. That's it. That's all it takes to begin. Your tribe is closer than you think, and God is already in the middle of it. Bless you.
