Episode 310 - What It Really Looks Like to Grow With God

July 20th, 2026

Today's my birthday, and instead of a to-do list, I sat down with the Lord and Psalm 139:23-24:

"Search me and try my heart, Lord. Know me. See if there's any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

That verse can sound a little intimidating if you're not careful. But here's what I've learned: when God searches your heart, there's always hope attached — never condemnation. So today, on 55, I want to walk you through what that actually looks like in real life.

Step 1 | Growing, Not Fixing 🌱

David asked God to search him in the Old Testament. We get to ask the same thing post-cross, and that changes the posture entirely. When I invite the Lord to search me now, I'm not bracing for a verdict — I'm asking from a place of "thank You for all I get to mature into."

Here's the truth I keep coming back to: we're already made wonderfully and beautifully. We're His sons and daughters, a new creation in Christ. We're not projects waiting to be fixed. We're simply growing into all that's already available to us, with the Holy Spirit helping us do it.

So this birthday, I asked Him plainly: "Lord, where's an opportunity for me to become more Christ-like?" Not out of fear. Out of curiosity, and honestly, a little excitement.

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy..."

Most days, without realizing it, we're agreeing with one half of that verse or the other.

Sometimes we get so frustrated, convinced we're waiting on the Lord for something — when actually He's already put it in place.

If there's one question I get asked more than any other, it's this:
How do you know it's God speaking?

Step 2 | The Mirror Moment 🪞

Here's something the Holy Spirit has been showing me lately: when something in someone else's behavior irritates you, it's often pointing at something in you, too. I've noticed I've been getting angry more than usual — and when I catch myself getting irritated at someone else losing their temper, I've started asking, "Lord, where am I doing this too?"

Some of it, honestly, is hormonal — I'm at that stage of life. Some of it is just my go-to way of trying to make myself feel okay. Neither is how Jesus behaved, and neither needs to stay hidden. That old question — what would Jesus do — is less about performance and more about permission to notice, gently, without shame, where we've got some growing left to do.

Step 3 | God Is Wanting To Do This With You 💛

Once God shows you something, the next move isn't to ask, "Will You help me?" It's to say, "Thank You that You help me." That's not just a nicer phrase — it's theologically accurate. The Holy Spirit is our Helper, our Comforter, our Counsel, our Advocate. Helping isn't a favor He extends when we ask nicely — it's who He is.

So when I write down the places He's shown me, I don't sit in them. I say, "Holy Spirit, thank You for making me aware of this. Will You help me understand the root of it, and help me walk out the truth instead?" That's the difference between striving to fix yourself and partnering with Someone who's already committed to helping you grow.

Say “Yes” to God’s Invitation

So here's where I land on my birthday: God shows us these things to move us forward, not to shame us. He highlights exactly what we have grace for right now. And He's already willing to help us walk it out.

Jesus is inviting you on this adventure — glory to glory, one honest layer at a time. Will you accept? Bless you.

Will you accept His invitation today? 💛
