How to Turn to God When

Anxiety Hits Hard

Anxiety is something every single one of us faces. We all have those triggers—the things that spark fear, worry, or panic before we’ve even had time to process what’s going on. And when you’re in the middle of that moment, when your emotions feel loud and overwhelming, the question becomes: How do I turn to God instead of spiraling?

Recently, one of my own triggers went off. It was strong, unexpected, and honestly—it scared me. After years of walking with God, I’ve learned that in moments like this, I have a choice:
I can run away from Him, or I can run toward Him.

So I chose to come close.
I whispered, “Lord, I’m really afraid of this. Will You show me what to do?”

Then He brought me back to His nature in Exodus 34:6—which changed everything:

the Lord is "compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion and faithfulness".

3 Ways to Shift From Anxiety to God’s Peace

1 | Pause and Breathe Before You Pray 😮‍💨

When anxiety hits, your nervous system goes into overdrive. In that state, even prayer can feel frantic. Before you try to fix anything or ask anything, pause. Take a slow breath in and let it out gently. This simple act signals to your body that you are safe and softens the emotional intensity.

It creates space for God’s presence to settle your heart. As you breathe, invite Him in with a quiet whisper: “Lord, I know You’re here with me.” This posture opens your heart to hear Him rather than react from fear.

2 | Remember God’s Nature Instead of the Enemy’s Lies 💛

Anxiety loves to play movies in our minds of everything that could go wrong. This is where fear grows. But God invites us to rehearse truth instead. Exodus 34:6 tells us exactly who He is: compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

When you intentionally shift your focus from the potential consequences to the nature of your Father, fear loses its grip. Speak truth out loud: “My Father is good. My Father is faithful. My Father is with me.” Your thoughts begin to align with heaven instead of worry.

3 | Ask for God’s Perspective 🙏

Often our instinct is to ask God to remove the situation, but He wants to give us something better—His perspective. Once your heart is anchored in who He is, ask:

“Lord, how do You see this? What are You doing in this situation? What do You want me to know? Who do I get to be right now?”

When you see through His eyes, fear is replaced by wisdom. Clarity comes. And instead of reacting, you begin responding with confidence and peace. God’s perspective always leads you into freedom, not panic.

Say “Yes” to God’s Invitation

My friend, anxiety isn’t a sign that something is wrong with you—it’s an opportunity to draw near to the One who loves you.
God isn’t surprised by your emotions or disappointed in your fear. He is right there, ready to steady your heart and remind you of His character.

Bring that situation to Him today. Let Him speak. Let Him comfort you. Let Him show you a different way of seeing things.

This is the adventure Jesus is inviting you on—walking through life anchored in His goodness, not in fear. Will you say yes?

Blessings to you
