How to Stay Peaceful When Life Feels Like a Mess
Have you ever had one of those days? The kind where the kitchen sink backs up, dirty dishes pile up, and the dishwasher floods with stinky water — all while you're just trying to make it through the day?
Well… that was my day.
In this episode of the podcast, I’m taking you behind the scenes of real life — not the curated highlight reel, but the messy, frustrating, and very human moments we all face. I was mad. And I’ll tell you exactly why in the video.
But more than that, I’ll show you the exact steps God walked me through to find peace in the middle of the chaos.
Here’s what it looks like:
| 1. Real-Life Stress Is an Invitation to Connect With God
Let’s be real — we all have moments where we’re just mad. When the dishwasher backs up, the sink won’t drain, and you’ve been washing dishes in the bathroom for 24 hours, it’s not just frustrating — it’s overwhelming.
But here’s what I’ve learned: God doesn’t wait for the mess to be cleaned up before He shows up. He meets us right there in the middle of the irritation, the tension, and the chaos.
What started as a plumbing disaster became a holy moment. Why? Because I paused long enough to notice the Holy Spirit whispering a gentle invitation: “You could choose peace instead of stress.” That’s how He works. He speaks into our everyday — not just our quiet times, but the real, raw, messy parts too.
✅ Try This:
Next time you feel the stress rising, pause and ask: “Holy Spirit, what are you inviting me into right now?” He’s always drawing you closer.
| 2. Recognizing and Replacing Lies with God’s Truth
As I sat with God, I began to notice something deeper than the backed-up sink. The stress wasn’t really about the mess — it was about the beliefs the mess exposed.
Thoughts like:
“If things aren’t in order, I can’t have peace.”
“I have to figure this out myself.”
“What if God doesn’t provide this time?”
Those are lies rooted in fear, not faith. And they come from our old nature — not from the heart of the Father. But here’s the beauty: we don’t have to stay stuck in them. We get to ask, “Lord, what lie am I believing right now?” and then hold out our hands for the truth He wants to give us in exchange.
For me, the truth sounded like:
“I am your peace — not your circumstances.”
“I provide for you abundantly.”
“You are safe because I am with you.”
✅ Try This:
Ask God, “What lie am I believing right now?” Then ask, “What truth do You want to give me in exchange?” Write down what you hear.
| 3. Peace Is a Person, Not a Circumstance
It’s easy to think we’ll have peace when things are finally in order — when the house is clean, the bills are paid, and the to-do list is checked off. But God’s peace doesn’t work that way. Peace isn’t found in control, order, or outcomes. Peace is found in a Person — Jesus.
Isaiah 9:6 calls Him the Prince of Peace. That means peace isn’t something He gives apart from Himself — He is peace. So when we invite Him into our anxiety, we’re not just asking for a feeling to change — we’re asking for His presence to fill the space where fear once lived.
When I surrendered my stress and opened my hands, I heard Him remind me: “I own the cattle on a thousand hills. I’ve got you. I’m not surprised by this plumbing issue, and I already have the solution.”
✅ Try This:
Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and whisper: “Jesus, You are my peace. I receive Your presence right now.” Let His nearness settle your spirit.
This is an invitation. And it changes everything.
